Dr. Yuan talks about diamonds: the present and future of cultivating diamonds

In recent years, the diamond market of cultivated diamonds in the world has become more and more prosperous, especially in the United States, which is the most mature, and Eurasia and other regions have gradually followed up.

At present, cultivated diamonds account for about 5% of the global diamond market, but the market is in a state of short supply, especially for white diamonds above 1 karat. Natural diamond mines will gradually dry up, and the main mineral deposits will have more than ten years of life left. The supply gap of natural diamonds in the market will gradually be filled by cultivated diamonds. Therefore, there is still a large market space for cultivated diamonds. In addition, CVD diamonds will be gradually developed and matured in the past few years, and the demand will be 10-100 times the share of jewelry diamonds.

Two sources of diamond cultivation: high temperature and high pressure HPHT growth technology is mature enough, there is little room for improvement. There are still two areas of room for improvement in chemical weather deposition CVD: 1. The growth process, including the number of rows and the technology of expanding the diameter of the seed chip growth, can reduce the growth cost by about 2/3. 2. The machine is expanded to improve the 2-inch tray to a 4-6-inch diameter tray, which can reduce the growth cost by about 2/3~4/5. After these two improvements are successful, the growth cost of CVD diamonds can be reduced by 9/10, leaving about 10% of the existing cost.

It is estimated that in another year or two, these two kinds of improvement space for CVD can be completed. The market price of CVD cultivated diamonds will be able to be greatly reduced, estimated to be above 1 karat J/VS2 claimed by De Beers Lightbox, with a retail price of US $800, which translates into 15% of the Rapaport quotation of the same specification. As a standard, the retail price of cultivated diamonds of different weights, colors and clarity produced by other manufacturers of our company is 15% as the retail price and 7.5 ~ 9% as the wholesale price according to the quotation. If cultivated diamonds are sold at this ratio, CVD diamond growers can make reasonable profits. However, if finished cultivated diamonds above HPHT 1 karat compete with CVD diamonds, they will lose considerable profits or even losses. Finished cultivated diamonds below 1 karat are not suitable for CVD growth. HPHT can try to reduce costs and grow cultivated diamonds below 1 karat. The retail price is Lightbox 800 USD/carat, there can still be considerable profits.

Cultivating diamonds, especially CVD diamonds, is now a mature sunrise enterprise. In the future, it will be used in jewelry diamonds and industrial heat dissipation, semiconductors, high-end electronics, auto-driving, quantum computers, high-end lasers... There is great room for development and it will be the beginning of a new era that will last for a hundred years and a thousand years.
